This cumulative experience identified numerous problems with performing a physical inventory. In fact, many companies were avoiding the task, because of the time, expense and complexity of the procedure. Traditional inventory tags, which require extensive handwriting and transcription work, and re-work because of errors and illegible handwriting, made the whole process quite frustrating and costly.
